Normally at Christmastime couples will be spending more time together - going out to dinner, to the movies, having dinner parties with friends. In the year of COVID, most of our usual date nights out aren’t advisable. As such, here are a list of “at home” date night ideas to get the holiday romance roaring in your life.
One: A walk to look at the lights
One of the things that you can do during COVID is walks outside. Luckily, at this time of year, most houses are decorated in beautiful lights, providing a free show full of surprises. Will you turn the corner and come across a beautifully lit house or a collection of inflatable Minions? Who knows? That’s part of the fun.
Two: A hot drink on a cold day
If you live in a wintery climate, why not fill your thermos with hot cocoa (or coffee with a splash of Bailey’s or Kalua) and take a walk in the woods? Winter woods are a relaxing and beautiful place, and your drink will keep you warm. So will holding hands with your sweetie.
Three: Cuddle by the fire
Whether it’s a real fireplace, a gas one, an LED display, or even just the fireplace channel on Youtube, throw down a blanket, grab a glass of wine, and pretend you and your partner are at a rustic ski lodge.
Four: Dinner “dates”
Rather than order in, take turns making dinner for one another. And I don’t mean a frozen pizza. Find some “fancy” recipes and spoil one another. Break out the candles, festive napkins, and the placemats and pretend you’re at a restaurant.
Five: Cook together
One of the most intimate things you can do with someone is make food together. If both of you hate cooking, instead of a meal, try something like raclette or cheese/oil fondue.
Six: PJs and Movies
Not like we aren’t already doing this in the pandemic, but pick a romantic Christmas movie, buy some special snacks, and cuddle up for an evening.
Whatever you end up doing over the holidays, don’t forget to spend some time with your special someone (especially if you have kids and can foist them off for an evening)!
